The MHS Class of ‘72 Community Award is granted to a graduating senior who has shown through their deeds and demeanor
to be an individual whose character exemplifies the value of positive civil discourse, civic engagement, and concern for the general welfare of others.
The Award recognizes the recipient’s capacity to work amicably and collaboratively with others and engender trust and respect in
contributing to positive results in situations as varied as aid to a single person, informal or self-initiated projects, or through more
traditionally recognized groups or programs associated with the school, the community or other civic or charitable activities.
The recipient has exhibited through the substance of their actions to be a person who always strives to bring people together and make their relevant world, large or small, a better place.
It is hoped that this Award will encourage the recipient to reflect on the promise that others see in them, so that
they will continue to be a positive influence in whatever community they choose to call theirs.
The recipient may use the honorarium for any expenses related to the advancement of their chosen path upon graduation, such as:
tuition for further academic studies; advancement of trade skills or related accreditations or certifications; defraying of
expenses incurred in preparation for military service or engaging in a charitable endeavor.
THANKS to everyone who donated to the MHS Class of '72 Community Award, if you wish to donate to continue this
worthwhile and continuing endeavor, you may help by sending a tax-deductible contribution to the

On Saturday evening, October 15, 2022, I had the privilege of speaking to all of you who were able to attend our Class of ‘72 50th Reunion Gala. In my haste, I now realize that I neglected to give everyone their due. So, I’d like to make amends here and offer a final word (or two).
In introducing the members of the Reunion Organizing Committee, I failed to mention Christopher Sands and Brian Devin. In our early meetings, Chris helped steer our discussion to be mindful of our classmates health. With his clear and unambiguous input, we crafted a respectful message in order to achieve that goal. Brian’s leadership and experience helped shape numerous discussions and decisions. His time, contributions and wisdom played an important part in reaching our objective…a fun, memorable weekend.
Here is the full list of your classmates who worked diligently to bring our reunion to fruition. Donna Weiner Cowan, Stephen Hamilton, Valerie Salvoni, Dale Carberry, Merrill Davidson, Brian Devin, Mary Ellen Garrity-Sullivan, Christopher Sands, Robert Connelly, Peter Keenan, Robert McAuliffe, Denise Decelle, Catherine Garvin Fillman, Ruth Pinkus, David Conkling and myself, Joe Gibbons. We thank you for all of your suggestions and support…especially for our Class of 1972 Scholarship Initiative.
Thanks, too, to Marianne Holland, Valerie Salvoni, Robert McAuliffe, and Stephen Hamilton for sharing their treasure trove of memorabilia. I know for certain that it was greatly appreciated. Also we would like to thank Donnie Lopez from Lopez the Florist for his lovely flowers, DJ Bruce Sheehan and Barbara Garofano for her wonderful photography.
Thanks for coming to any or all of the Reunion events. Without your presence, support and sharing, our reunion wouldn’t have been quite as much fun and memorable. Please post or share in whatever your photos. In time, they will become a part of our class storyline.
Until we meet again, Please Be Safe, Be Well and keep up with your classmates. They were and remain significant in each of our lives!
